WHO WE ARE
QLatinx is a grassroots racial, social, and gender justice organization dedicated to the advancement and empowerment of Central Florida's LGBTQ+ Latinx community.
OUR HISTORY
QLatinx was founded in response to the mass shooting and act of hate that occurred on June 12, 2016 at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, FL, during the LGBTQ+ establishment’s Latinx themed night, that robbed our community of 49 lives and left many more physically and psychologically wounded.
QLatinx brought together members of the local community directly and deeply impacted by this tragedy to build a supportive infrastructure, address inequity, and promote inclusionary practices for local leadership and partnering agencies.
In our work we honor the memory and legacy of the 49 angels that whose lives were taken that night, nearly half were of Puerto Rican descent; while many more were Cuban, Dominican, Ecuadorian, Mexican, Salvadoran, Venezuelan, Afro-Latinx, and from other Latinx communities. Some were Black. Some were undocumented. Over half were under the age of 30, the youngest victims having just turned 18 years old.
OUR MISSION
QLatinx seeks to center and empower the most marginalized members of our community, establish affirming and supportive healing spaces, build a strong and united community, and work towards a society free of fear, violence, and hate.
